Not winning giveaways. I know, I know! I'm such a baby about it. But DUDE! It's been like 6 or 8 weeks

Gun Control. All these proposed laws that do nothing to prevent mass murder, yet serve to render me defenseless.

If you're offended...

So, this time around, the republicans didn’t budge, and good for them. This time the GOP says, “you know what, Obama, you’ve had two months, and as usual, you did nothing. So, you aren’t taxing us more. You fix it. You make the necessary cuts.” Keep in mind, Obama chose where he made the cuts.

What do you think Obama did? Cut out the free food and phones for 25 year able-bodied males who haven’t even applied for a job in the last year? Or maybe stop fully supporting women with 5 illegitimate kids? You know what, if you couldn’t afford the first one you shouldn’t have had the second, third…etc. How about not allowing people to spend thousands of dollars on rims, nails, hair while I work overtime and send my taxes to them to pay for their food? How many more examples are there?

Did he cut any of these areas of excessive spending? Nope. Instead, he stopped daily White House tours, he stopped the serving of breakfast for our deployed troops, he stopped national park tours, and no more tuition assistance for our troops. They can use their GI bill. Then he had the nerve to say the GOP would rather hurt our military than to pay more taxes. No, Obama, you chose that. Over all the things you could have chosen, you went with that.

The top 2% shouldn’t have to pick up the slack for your irresponsible spending and poor leadership. And let's be honest, is he really on the side of the middle class? I am the middle class. He's not worried about me. My taxes are going up while their freebies keep flowing in. At some point we all have to take responsibility for our actions, but do we really have to take everyone else’s too? Where does this end and when will the blind followers learn?

Henson Ong on Gun Control. Just Five Minutes.

If this offends you, you are part of the problem.

We need more people willing to stand up and speak the truth. Not from a political standpoint and not even for yourself as an individual. We need to stop allowing media to tell us what we think, use facts and our moral fiber to draw conclusions. Imagine a world with more Henson Ongs and Benjamin Carsons. Oh, what a wonderful world that would be.

Things I Don't Love link up

Thanks again to Melissa over at LuLu and Sweet Pea for hosting the oh so fun "Things I Don't Love Thursday".
I do not love Natural Peanut Butter. Just gross. That's the first time I tried. It's like grimy water. I'll stick with the processed kind that contains salt and sugar.
Pandora commercials. But I don't use it enough to give them any money. Sorry.
Tadpoles. Why did my husband bring home a tadpole in a fish bowl? Gross.
Life could be worse, right?!

Things I'm Not Lovin Linky Party

First of all I do LOVE joining linkys.
What I'm not loving this week..
King Cake.Yep, I said it. I live in Louisiana and we are serious about Mardi Gras. King cakes are a festive and delicious part of the season and everywhere you turn you can find one. Some are filled with cream cheese, some raspberry or other fruity yums yums, some are dry....All are filled with cellulite.
As well as I have done this week with staving off craving for chocolate, I made a bee line for this cake upon entering the office. I mean, it's once a year, what could I do? Yes, so now my legs are fluffy and I'm blaming the king cake
Waiting on birth certificate. I will not get into this long story because it kind of infuritates me...if it's possible to be "kind of infuriated." Just know that I've been waiting on an updated copy of my eldest daughter's birth cert and the social worker dropped the ball....and yada's been almost a year.
Not having enough patients. I'm a home health nurse. I make money per visit. With healthcare changing, medicare has made serious cut backs and the state of Louisiana is currently being audited. This week my total visits have plunged. It's terrible. While I know that the Lord will give me good things to do with the new found time on my hands, I want my visits. Which brings my to the last thing I'm not loving this week...
The changing health care. I shall not say more. You either get it or you don't.

This Week's Music

I find music to be fascinating. I often wonder what makes us enjoy the sounds we enjoy. I've been fortunate enough to be exposed to many genres and decades in my life. Thanks to my mom for the classic country peppered with Otis Redding and Percy Sledge. My sister helped too. Although only four years older than me she liked music from the few previous decades (We were teens in the 90's). I think Bob Seger will always be an all time fave for me. But, my teen influences are still a big part of me so Sublime and Nirvana are never far away. In the last 7 years or so, I have discovered a love for modern folk and I cannot get enough. When I write these posts they will mostly be filled with my more recent finds. I love the passion, the voices, the sounds that you just know move within the artist's soul. Rarely is this found in mainstream music of today.
I like to post about music every now and again in order to promote artists that IMHO deserve recognition. Sometimes I post old songs that might ignite vague memories and nostalgia. Whatever may come of it, here's my list for this week:

And Then You by Greg Laswell
Poncho and Lefty by Townes Van Zandt (the original is beautiful but this guy has a great voice and I love hearing him sing this)
Come and Find Me by Josh Ritter
When I'm Away From You by The Bellamy Brothers
Lord, I Hope This Day is Good by Brandon Rhyder (again, let's not forget the original but this is a must listen)
My Own Worst Enemy by Lit (anyone remember 90's alternative)
Collie Man by Slightly Stoopid
The Stable Song by Gregory Alan Isakov
Out of the Dark by Matt Hires
Best Dress by Damien Jurado

I love, love, love Matt Hires. I  swiped this video from youtube and I hope you all enjoy.

P90X update and inspiration...

And no you are not getting photos just yet.

Today is day 13. It is really amazing how quickly I have built up strength. For the first 5 days I thought for sure I would kill over at just any moment. But, alas, I sit here and type this. Although my clothes aren't fitting differently, my legs feel much more solid and around my ribs seems to be shrinking. I know what you're thinking....only day 13 and possible shrinkage..yeah, right.

Let me tell you...Four months after I had Avery I realized I was still a cow. This realization came in stark contrast to the 100 lbs I weighed a solid 6 weeks after giving birth to Kyndall. So, I was more resilient back then and it took me 4 months to admit that I must get up and work out.

In come, P90X... and out comes...super fit Shelley.

Avery is now 3 and a half and we also have an almost 2 year old. So, I am no longer super fit Shelley.

Now, if you're wondering why I said "seems" to be shrinking, it's because I haven't yet mustered the nerve to weigh or measure for fear of disappointment. This is irrational and I do not care. I can't compare numbers until I am SURE they'll be on my side. Nor will you get picks until then.

But, I feel stronger and more energetic and am quite sure I've already made progress.

My next step in this is to stop eating junk. I don't have a terrible habit, but if I happen across a bowl full of chocolate covered carmel, well, what's a girl to do?

GiGi's Taco Soup and Giveaway Reminder

Hi!! I have to give y'all this recipe. My mom in law (GiGi) was in town this weekend and brought some. It was so good and I made some myself yesterday. It is completely consumed and the fam is asking for more.

The recipe is my mom in law's own. She makes a lot of weight watchers recipes (and, yes, she looks great). She wasn't satisfied with any chicken tortilla soup recipe she found so she came up with her own. This is so simple it's ridiculous. It may be found somewhere else on the web or in a cookbook, but GiGi gets credit here.

1 Med onion
1 green bell pepper
garlic, to taste (mine is about 3Tbs)
1 tsp olive oil
12-16 oz fajita chicken
6 cups low sodium, fat free chicken broth
large can peeled and diced tomatoes
1 can whole kernel corn
1 can black beans
1 can rotel
3 tsp coumin
1 or 2 packs taco seasoning mix

Saute onion, pepper, and garlic in olive oil until soft. Add to boiling broth along with cumin and seasoning mix and stir well. Add all other ingredients, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for two hours. That's it. If you're on WW, this is a two point dish.

Let me know if you like it!

Don't forget about my giveaway
