Things I Don't Love link up

Thanks again to Melissa over at LuLu and Sweet Pea for hosting the oh so fun "Things I Don't Love Thursday".

I do not love Natural Peanut Butter. Just gross. That's the first time I tried. It's like grimy water. I'll stick with the processed kind that contains salt and sugar.

Pandora commercials. But I don't use it enough to give them any money. Sorry.

Tadpoles. Why did my husband bring home a tadpole in a fish bowl? Gross.

Life could be worse, right?!

Things I'm Not Lovin Linky Party

First of all I do LOVE joining linkys.

What I'm not loving this week..

King Cake.Yep, I said it. I live in Louisiana and we are serious about Mardi Gras. King cakes are a festive and delicious part of the season and everywhere you turn you can find one. Some are filled with cream cheese, some raspberry or other fruity yums yums, some are dry....All are filled with cellulite.
As well as I have done this week with staving off craving for chocolate, I made a bee line for this cake upon entering the office. I mean, it's once a year, what could I do? Yes, so now my legs are fluffy and I'm blaming the king cake

Waiting on birth certificate. I will not get into this long story because it kind of infuritates me...if it's possible to be "kind of infuriated." Just know that I've been waiting on an updated copy of my eldest daughter's birth cert and the social worker dropped the ball....and yada yada..it's been almost a year.

Not having enough patients. I'm a home health nurse. I make money per visit. With healthcare changing, medicare has made serious cut backs and the state of Louisiana is currently being audited. This week my total visits have plunged. It's terrible. While I know that the Lord will give me good things to do with the new found time on my hands, I want my visits. Which brings my to the last thing I'm not loving this week...

The changing health care. I shall not say more. You either get it or you don't.

This Week's Music

I find music to be fascinating. I often wonder what makes us enjoy the sounds we enjoy. I've been fortunate enough to be exposed to many genres and decades in my life. Thanks to my mom for the classic country peppered with Otis Redding and Percy Sledge. My sister helped too. Although only four years older than me she liked music from the few previous decades (We were teens in the 90's). I think Bob Seger will always be an all time fave for me. But, my teen influences are still a big part of me so Sublime and Nirvana are never far away. In the last 7 years or so, I have discovered a love for modern folk and I cannot get enough. When I write these posts they will mostly be filled with my more recent finds. I love the passion, the voices, the sounds that you just know move within the artist's soul. Rarely is this found in mainstream music of today.
I like to post about music every now and again in order to promote artists that IMHO deserve recognition. Sometimes I post old songs that might ignite vague memories and nostalgia. Whatever may come of it, here's my list for this week:

And Then You by Greg Laswell
Poncho and Lefty by Townes Van Zandt (the original is beautiful but this guy has a great voice and I love hearing him sing this)
Come and Find Me by Josh Ritter
When I'm Away From You by The Bellamy Brothers
Lord, I Hope This Day is Good by Brandon Rhyder (again, let's not forget the original but this is a must listen)
My Own Worst Enemy by Lit (anyone remember 90's alternative)
Collie Man by Slightly Stoopid
The Stable Song by Gregory Alan Isakov
Out of the Dark by Matt Hires
Best Dress by Damien Jurado

I love, love, love Matt Hires. I  swiped this video from youtube and I hope you all enjoy.

P90X update and inspiration...

And no you are not getting photos just yet.

Today is day 13. It is really amazing how quickly I have built up strength. For the first 5 days I thought for sure I would kill over at just any moment. But, alas, I sit here and type this. Although my clothes aren't fitting differently, my legs feel much more solid and around my ribs seems to be shrinking. I know what you're thinking....only day 13 and possible shrinkage..yeah, right.

Let me tell you...Four months after I had Avery I realized I was still a cow. This realization came in stark contrast to the 100 lbs I weighed a solid 6 weeks after giving birth to Kyndall. So, I was more resilient back then and it took me 4 months to admit that I must get up and work out.

In come, P90X... and out comes...super fit Shelley.

Avery is now 3 and a half and we also have an almost 2 year old. So, I am no longer super fit Shelley.

Now, if you're wondering why I said "seems" to be shrinking, it's because I haven't yet mustered the nerve to weigh or measure for fear of disappointment. This is irrational and I do not care. I can't compare numbers until I am SURE they'll be on my side. Nor will you get picks until then.

But, I feel stronger and more energetic and am quite sure I've already made progress.

My next step in this is to stop eating junk. I don't have a terrible habit, but if I happen across a bowl full of chocolate covered carmel, well, what's a girl to do?

I entered into a blog hop that will run for a week. This is a great way to gain exposure and make new friends. I have added a link below to give my followers and visitors a place to go from here.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend. Not only do I have a new niece to celebrate, but tonight I'm having a girls night of drinks and sushi.

I started p90x this week and have significantly cut calories. I see a small difference and plan to keep it up. But tonight I'm stuffing my face with the Chef's Special at Toyko. Have a good weekend.

A Book Giveaway

For Christmas Santa....I like to call him Chris, brought me a book by Andy Andrews called The Noticer. I read it in three days (and that includes the crazy day following Christmas). I found this book to be an easy read as well as a good one. It is inspirational and eye opening. A simple concept that points out the human flaw of focusing on things in their bland and obvious content, rather than what might lurk beneath the surface. The "noticer" in the novel is around to help those sometimes negative and sometimes selfish thoughts be put into perspective...a different, more positive perspective.I have already suggested it to my friends who are also avid readers. One of them read in a day and seemed to enjoy it as much as I did.

As you can see, this is just a simple little blog. I thought that I could promote it a little while offering someone a bit of enlightenment. So, I am giving away a copy of The Noticer. In order to win, all you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment telling me what your favorite book of the past year was. The contest will run until next Wednesday, January 16th at noon.

Happy New Year

I have never thought that making a new year's resolution made a lot of sense.
I always assumed that if you know there is a change to be made you should be striving for it now matter the date.
Maybe it's because I'm finally mature and all that yuck stuff, but I kind of get it.
Starting a new year. Starting over, starting anew. I guess it makes sense after all.
I will hold to the belief that we should always work to be better, but I understand how Jan 1 might bring about the opportunity to exhale, regroup, and adjust where needed.

That was my disclaimer.

Now, what would I like to do differently, or better, in 2013?
I'm not going to say anything profound here. so no need to put on your seatbelt...

I will eat less chocolate.
I will go to an extra mass during the week every once in a while.
I will continue to read my Jesus Calling app first thing in  the morning.
I will spend more LOUD evenings enjoying my family.
I will attempt to be more patient. This is really a hard one for me.
I will work out an extra time each week.
I will post at least one more blog post this month than last and try to increase my readers.
I will take more photos....UH, yeah, with my new Canon Rebel.

What will you do?
